Frequently Asked Questions
The urinary catheter is frequently called a "Foley." This is because it is named after its inventor, the famous Minnesota Urologist Dr. Frederick Foley. There are many different varieties and sizes, but the basic principles are the same. It is a rubber or silicone drainage tube with a retention balloon on the tip. The retention balloon holds it in the bladder, so urine can drain out. It is a closed system to decrease the chances of infection.

My Urologist and/or GP says that I need ongoing catheter care and monthly catheter changes. What do I need to do to have Free Flow Urologics provide their service?
After a Free Flow Urologics consultation, we will be able to determine your specific needs. We will have our supplier and team of experts work with you to determine supplies needed, billing, and catheter exchange schedule.
Am I covered by my insurance company to have catheter support? Does my provincial health care or health insurance cover my catheter needs?
Our team and supplier, CatheterPlus, will be able to provide a consultation to see if the cost of supplies is covered. Free Flow Urologics is presently working to establish direct billing with insurance companies and Alberta Health. Personal payment can be arranged via money transfer, VISA, or debit.
How soon can I start receiving Catheter or Suprapubic catheter support?
Once your initial catheter has been inserted by your Urologist, and you have received a catheter care order, you can then complete our consultation request form (Click for form).
